About Jensen Gelfond
The origins of Asheville's friendly computer expert
I founded Asheville Digital Lifestyle in 2012 because of a lifelong passion for supporting people and working with technology. I realized that the typical tech support experience in America often disregarded peoples' emotional wellbeing and did not build trust, which is essential for learning and using computers confidently. My mission is to change the culture of technology teaching and support.
My first experience with a computer was at age 5, when my family brought home a new and wondrous black and white screened Mac Plus. As a homeschooler, I had the opportunity to dive deeply into the world of computing, and was a voracious learner with help from my Dad, Lew. I was soon committed to teaching parents, grandparents, family and friends how to use their Macs, Windows PCs, and the internet. I also learned fundamental business skills early in life, answering the phone for dad's music business even as a kid.
Keeping up-to-date on the latest in important technology news and devices has been like breathing air for me. Learning to use technology, and helping others to make the most of it in service to their own life goals, is a passion for me. After graduating from Dickinson College in 2008 I came to Asheville and worked for Green Festivals, a national event planning company, where I became the Information Technology Manager. I enjoyed empowering everyone in the office do their best and most effective work, yet I yearned for a way to support more Ashevillians. In 2012 I founded Asheville Digital Lifestyle, and embarked on my journey to provide compassionate, effective tech teaching and support to the entire Asheville community.
Today I also provide volunteer support for people involved with community organizations such as 12 Baskets (Asheville Poverty Initiative), Helpmate, the Racial Justice Coalition, and Story Medicine Worldwide. During my time in Asheville I have also provided Business Technology Coaching services for Mountain Bizworks clients and offered volunteer tech support for clients of The Council on Aging of Buncombe County.
I love to teach, and have presented for SCORE, UNCA, the Goodwill Business Advisory Council, AARP, and the Council on Aging of Buncombe County’s Successful Aging Conference, among others. My past endeavors in Asheville include participation in Leadership Asheville, Building Bridges, recognition from Asheville's "40 Under 40," President of the Kiwanis Club of Asheville, and President of the BNI Mountain Synergy networking organization.
I enjoy hiking, backpacking, and bird watching with my spouse Beth. I also enjoy collaborating with community organizations to work towards a more equitable and sustainable AVL for people and planet.
Thanks for reading! If we've yet to have a conversation, I encourage you to reach out and book a free introductory call using my online scheduler. I look forward to the next step in our shared journey here in the Appalachian mountains of Western North Carolina.
